Several Chapter Members Receive MLA Awards

Did you realize a number of Midwest Chapter members received awards, scholarships and special recognitions at this year's MLA Annual Meeting? Take a look at the list and send your congratulations to your fellow chapter members. Thanks to Bette Sydelko, AHIP, Wright State University, for chairing the MLA Grants and Scholarships Committee! If we missed your award or scholarship, please let us know.

  • Elaine Hicks, graduate student the University of Illinois-Urbana Champaign School of Library and Information Science, was awarded the MLA Scholarship to the annual MLA 2009 meeting.

  • J. Michael Homan, AHIP, FMLA, Mayo Foundation, was selected for the 2009 Janet Doe Lectureship "Eye on the Prize: Reflections on the Impact of the Evolving Digital Ecology on the Librarian as Expert Intermediary and Knowledge Coach, 1969-2009."

  • Logan Ludwig, AHIP, Loyola University, Chicago, was chosen as new MLA Fellow by the MLA Board of Directors.

  • Melinda Guffey Orebaugh, Gunderson Lutheran Health System, Wisconsin, was awarded the MLA Hospital Libraries Section 2009 Professional Recognition Award on Leadership.

  • Melody Allison, University of Illinois-Urbana Campaign, was recognized with the Nursing & Allied Health Resources Section (NAHRS) Award for Professional Excellence.

  • Misa Mi, AHIP, University of Toledo; Sandra Swanson, Mercy General Health Partners, Muskegan, MI; and Marie-Lise Shams, AHIP, University of Detroit Mercy, were given the Research Section 2008 Hospital Librarian Research Award for their research poster "Health Sciences Librarians in Michigan: Connection to Emerging Web 2.0 Technologies."

  • Mary Markland, AHIP, University of North Dakota School of Medicine & Health Sciences, received the Public Services Section (PSS) travel award for the MLA annual meeting.

  • Erika Sevetson, University of Wisconsin, received travel awards to the MLA annual meeting from both the Public Health/Health Administration Section (PH/HA) and from the Public Services Section (PSS).

  • Elaine Stanley, Ecolab Inc., received the Medical Informatics Section MLA annual meeting travel award.

  • Debra Werner, University of Chicago, was the recipient of the Midwest Chapter, Chapter Council Sharing Roundtable Award.

Other librarians in the region who received awards:
  • Heidi Schroeder, Michigan State University Libraries, UMich-East Lansing, received an EBSCO/MLA Annual Meeting Grant.

  • Elizabeth Whipple, Ruth Lilly Medical Library, Indiana University School of Medicine, received a Medical Informatics Section (MIS) travel award.
